2009 isn't turning out to be the panacea everyone hoped it would be. We're not even through January and already two of my friends have suffered the loss of a parent. One lost a Mother to an icy road the other lost her father to a heart that stopped beating. No matter what our current relationship is with our parents they are our creators and deep down somewhere we may see them as heros or maybe small 'g' gods.

The loss of a parent reminds us of our own mortality and lets us know that we all must pass on. I lost my mother to cancer on February 29th 2004. Her cancer spread rapidly and was masticized through out her body. Her health decline was rapid and I only had a few days to spend with her at the end. She was literally fighting for her every breath. It was a welcome release from her illness when she passed. My outlook on death changed. It went from seeing death as something to be feared, to seeing death as a force of nature.

We'll all die someday we can't avoid it. Death is what makes life so special.

If we lived forever what would we do with our lives? Probably nothing because its human nature to think "what's the rush we could always live it tomorrow".

Now on the other hand if you where at an amusement park and you knew the park closed at 5pm you'd make sure you got your ride on the big roller coaster at least once before the park closed.

Its all about quality not quantity, death lets us know that we're not going to get the quantity of life that we want. So its up to us to make use of what we have.

Ashley Montagu said "The idea is to die young as late as possible. "

Celebrate life and respect death.
