I awoke angry and feeling deceived
but as the morning blossomed there was this man
and his words and his hands and the way he held my eyes
--a gaze only real
only frozen deep and thick

I saw this man and he burned away the salt
of the bitterness that rose with my eyes

He would never break me because he holds all that can mend me.

He is my mender,
my heart beneath the sun

a ring of leaves that falls onto the sea

And I grew mountains because of it
