This is fucked up.

Over break, several things were stolen from research labs here in the science center--a few balances here and there, 60 or 72 (don't remember if one of the cases held 36 or 48) CD's of mine--all from behind locked doors.

Well, apparently that was just the start. Last night, someone broke into our lab by climbing over the door to the lab next door (it would take too long to describe how, but suffice to say that it's possible) and pushing out the door between the two labs. Fortunately, my laptop wasn't in here, but Ken's was, and it was taken (he has to give an hour-long seminar on Thursday, and his presentation was finished and on his laptop). They broke into one of the research labs upstairs somehow and took a laptop and a tower from there (the laptop was way back in the corner of the lab behind a bunch of shit). They broke into another research lab upstairs and stole the box of keys to instrumentation and teaching rooms (and that, I might point out, is ALL that was missing from that lab) which they then used to get into the NMR room and steal the flat-panel display for the NMR machine. That's all I know of that went missing last night.

This was an extremely focused theft. They knew exactly who tends to leave their computers overnight. They knew exactly where to get the box of keys to get into other rooms, and took JUST THAT BOX from the room in which they got it.

Ken called Campus Safety and the Potsdam police at 8:30 this morning. Campus Safety got here at 9:40. The Potsdam police got here at 10:30. I'm highly reminded of when someone broke into our suite freshman year and stole all four computers, and no one did shit.
