Wow, I feel like a complete idiot.

I was walking back from a friend's place--somewhere I've been 4 or 5 times previously, which I had no problem finding even the very first time I ever went. I've always travelled to and from there from the exact same place (where I live). It's also worth noting that I have an extremely good direction sense.

Now for the annoying part.

Sometimes I get lost in thought. It's typically only when I'm generally happy with life and in my contentedness (if that's a word), I inadvertently let my mind wander. I rarely have any idea where it's gone off to, it just leaves, and my body is left to function essentially consciousless. This can be very, very bad if I'm walking or driving somewhere, because I don't stop walking or driving. I keep going. And not necessarily in a straight line; it often involves seemingly random turns. When I finally snap out of it and realize that my mind wasn't paying any attention to my surroundings, I've travelled an indeterminate distance after taking an indeterminate amount of turns--I'm effectively lost.

As you've probably gathered, I did that on the way home today. It didn't take too long to end up back on track (thank you aforementioned direction sense), but it turned a 15 minute walk home into a 35 minute walk home. I still have no idea exactly where I ended up and how I got there. The most annoying thing? The thing that snapped me back to attention was the fact that it started raining.

Okay, that wasn't the most annoying thing. The most annoying part was that I ended up missing the person I wanted to talk to when I got home by 10 minutes.
