ditto on the love of tascams. my first four track was a porta seven that lasted me for years and i fucking loved it. I know all about the 288 because the 688 has the same exact transport in it, its just has a 20 channel mixer built in to make it self contained. I do believe it has a serial port too that you can link up a 688 w/ the 288 so that is pretty cool. I bought it off ebay a few months ago, but have been hacving some problems with it. the biggest is that something in the erase head in track 7 and 8 is screwed up and it doesnt totally record over what you were trying to erase... if that makes any sense! But i figured out that if i just bounce two tracks ie vocal and guitar to track 7 and 8 its no big deal becasue i wouldnt need to record over them again. As for the other equipment i have, its all pretty beginner level stuff, i was more interested in getting a well rounded set of gear, then one high quality piece. in my rack i have and art tps pre amp, a joe meek preamp, a midiverb, berhinger compressor, a boss compressor, a 48 point patch bay, a cd recorder and a tape deck and a furman power strip. I also have a couple of oktavas, and mxl condensors from guitar center. they're cheap, but they really sound great. I used to work in the recording stuido at Towson U. and i worked with a shitload of great mics, and for the price you cant beat those specials. Sorry this is so long! we'll talk more later
