Time for my weekly blog post. I didn't start blogging with the intention of only making a post every Monday but it seems that's the way that it has been going lately so I'll stick with it. Nothing eventful happened at all over the past week except I hit level 50 on RIFT and then my class was promptly nerfed into oblivion the very next day tongue

Anyways, enough of boring life talk. The topic of today's blog is Akira Yamaoka. If you don't know who that is, you've been missing out on a) one of the best game franchises of all time and b) one of the top game music composers of all time (I like him even more than Nobuo, that's how awesome he is). He was the lead composer for the soundtracks of every Silent Hill game to date (Sadly, the last entry in the series, Shattered Memories, was his last time composing for SH, he's now moved on. Hoping, but not confident, that the man taking over for SH: Downpour will be at least somewhat on par with Yamaoka). The soundtracks to each and every SH are some of the best soundtracks I've heard in video games ever. I have favorite tracks from each and every one of them, and listen to them quite often. They're particularly good because I feel like you're listening to stuff that could be on some actual artist's album, rather than just a game soundtrack. They could definitely be tracks that would be on some awesome industrial album and you wouldn't know the difference (not all of them are industrial tracks, just most of them).

So yeah, that's my love letter to Akira Yamaoka. I've just been on a Silent Hill soundtrack kick lately and it made me want to write something. Here's some of my favorite tracks and shit:

Also, Benten has a SH3 inspired set which you should check out. It earned her an insta fave from me :p

And if you're interested in what Yamaoka's next project is, check out Shadows of the Damned. He's the lead composer for that. It's an action/horror game from the creators of Resident Evil and No More Heroes.
