I would have posted this on the Feminist Group, but they don't seem to like common sense for some reason: Is there a "Glass Ceiling"? Personally I say too early to say. Take the NOW movement of the early 70's, this movement pushed women into "untraditional" roles, empowered women to get their MBA go into Engineering and science and all the other Traditionally Male professions on a large scale.
The talent pool was allowed to grow, providing women with the skills to dominate industry the opportunity. These women, for argument sake, started their College Education in 75' graduated @ 23 in 79' and immediately entered the workforce.
The Average age of a Fortune 500 CEO is 58 years old. The Average age of the female Post NOW workpool is 48. Currently roughly 52% of Fortune 500 middle management are women.
I think that things are right about where they should be Post NOW. The Strongest women are in a position to take the reigns of the biggest and brightest companies with in the next 10 years. There will be a "Glass Ceiling" if this does not happen.
Another thing that burns my ass are the reports that women make less then men. The fact of the matter is that to make this true, Feminist groups take an average census of salaries with out paying attention to the jobs. Women have a tendency to go into more social type fields such as social worker, teacher, and nurse... These jobs are generally lower pay then say a chemical engineer. With exception of Walmart, I think it would be hard to find a company that would pay a male Mechanical Engineer more then a Female Mechanical Engineer for the same skill and Education.
Compare apples to apples, and do some research for yourself. Common sense can go a long way.
