so it turns out that at some point in the 10 or 11 years it's been since i last went to the Wonderland out in Abbotsford or wherever that thing is, it was renamed Castle Fun Park. no biggie, the batting cages are still there so no harm no foul - unless you're trying to hit in the 70mph cage, in which case the harm will be significant, and there will be fouls aplenty.
as it turned out, the harm stuck around for a few days... it's still lurking in my back and my right arm. ouch, goddamn it.
while Hethral and i were there, we managed to pass Time Crisis 2. you know you're hardcore when you pass an arcade game, though i'm sure the mountain of tokens Heth bought didn't hurt. we poured plenty of them into the Metal Slug machine, but it's a harsh mistress and all it gave us for our efforts was several visits from the Insert Coins to Continue Fairy.
speaking of fairies, in the book i'm reading a guy whose brother's soul was stolen by the Fairie Queen just slept with one of the now-wingless forest spirits while vikings killed his friend's friend's childhood friend. definitely not a narrative for people who can't trace multiple arcs. thoroughly enjoyable though... i might have to go back and read the copy of The Lions of Al'Rassan that i never really got started on. it's the only Guy Gavriel Kay book that hasn't managed to immediately pull me in.
in other news i scored a copy of Goldeneye on friday afternoon for ten bucks at a pawn shop. i had almost forgotten the rush of gratification that comes from shooting a russian shock trooper in the nuts with made-for-movies weaponry. i can't think of any game off the top of my head that featured locational damage before Goldeneye came out. for an N64 game it's still pretty badass.
anyways, back to my peanut butter sandwiches. it's sunny out and i have no excuse for spending my lunch break surfing SG. at least not all of it anyways.
update: what the fuck is up with CDDB today? it says i'm listening to "You're a Woman, I'm a Manchine". i can only assume that a manchine is akin to an erotobot or some new kind of recently de-classified government clockwork-sex-machine project. also, since when do DFA play folk rock? honestly.
