ok, so these guys started off on a bad note - they're cunts, plain and simple. i, being the naive little thing i am, had thought they were at about the lowest point they could possibly hit when they decided to launch a site that completely hides the fact that you can get their player for free. but no, oh no, they got worse.
i just tried to watch something at iFilm... easy enough right? of course, oh but wait it's been rated as adult content, so i have to create an account with Real to prove how old i am. annoying? ever so slightly... i worked for a dotcom, i know how marketing weasels think. they're just collecting info because my name and email address are money to them. low down dirty tricks, those fucking weenies.
ok, so i sign up with a long-dead hotmail address. old trick: it won't bounce but i don't have to deal with it. so i try to watch it again... oh but wait, now that i have an account i have to prove my age with a credit card number. A GODDAMN CREDIT CARD NUMBER. *fume*
i swear to god, they have such a nut-kicking coming to them. first they make a shitty media player, then they decide to trick people into buying it, then they decide to regulate content on behalf of who? no one. it's just another way to get signups. THEN they want credit card numbers to verify age? no fucking way, their terms of service are such bullshit that i don't doubt that i'd be signing up for a paid player while i was at it. GOD FUCKING DAMMIT what's with these people?
here they have a stranglehold on streaming media and what do they do with it? they keep their source closed - refusing to even license it to third parties, they swindle the general public, they serve popups through their player along with packing ads into every spare inch of their site and player, then on top of all that they brazenly modify their services so that you have to give them valuable information for free just to use their shitty media player. could RealNetworks be any more of a pack of snarling twats? i think not.
