i posted this on a board in another online community. It was in the "L.A. punk scene" group it was in response to little kids thinking they know everything about anything:

"This board is pretty funny. It reminds me of middle school, when the other kids would ask someone if they were punk. If you said yes, it meant you were a poser of some sort for saying you were and if you said no, then you were laughed at for trying to give off the appearance of one.

Do I think punk is dead? I'm not sure. I don't think anything is accomplished by asking or answering that question. All I do know, is if you love something, then you should do your best to learn about it, understand it, and propigate it (you know, contribute to it). If you love punk music and the punk scene but were too young to be there for the early years, read the books, watch the documentaries, talk to those who were there, listen to the music, make your own music, get a music show on a local college station, and support bands by going to their shows. After that, make an educated decision to that all so important question. You might find, that the answer really isn't important.

i dated a girl breifly. her comment (im sure she didnt come up with it) on the subject was "punks not dead, but it deserves to die" i thought that was perfect.

my opinion is that everything is dead. there hasnt been any as new as punk was in the 70's since then. alternative, maybe, but even that was about death and deconstruction.

its all been assimilated into by producers and the music "industry"

i just started re-reading "please kill me tonight" great book. prolly my favorite book about early punk and rock n roll
