I had a horrible poetry workshop experience this week. No one seemed to understand what my poem was about. While i intended it to be a bit of a riddle, i did not intend for it to be impossible to understand. However, i do not feel this the case. Now it is up to you to see if you can understand what my poem is about. it is simpler than you think:

Two Lovers Seeking Shelter from the Storm

Thin wire bones
Stretch the fabric taut.
The radial wing of a raven,
Thrashing wildly such massive gusts
As to split the sky along the seam
And warp its fragile metal frame.

Come rabid winds
Sent howling wild through the skies.
Rend the skin from off the bone,
And send two fledglings
Hand in hand, to seek shelter
From the violent storm.
--------------

This is the first time I've ever posted one of my poems. tell me what you think. that is if you really want to....

P.S. on the subject of poetry, i just got back from a reading by Robert Pinski (sp?) and it was amazing. what a talented man.

As far as the 20's-30's blues go here's some of my favorites that I've came across: Bo Carter, Furry Lewis, Funny Papa Smith, Tampa Red. Somebody must be selling off a massive collection a bit at a time to my favorite local record store. I've just been buying as much as I can for a couple years now. I'm dreading the day that it stops coming in. Most of the records are from three european labels that were issuing them on vinyl in the late seventies/early eighties. Earl Archives, Wolf Records and Document. I'd doubt that they're still issuing this stuff, but I've not looked into it. The one label that I know of that is still in business is Yazoo, they've got a website that should give you some good ideas. They do more than blues but I think they stick with all pre-50's stuff. Not sure if they still put out vinyl though. Oh, I just remembered this: CANNON'S JUG STOMPERS they are (were)absolutely incredible. See if you can find anything by them, I promise you'll not be disapointed. The leader (Gus Cannon) went by the name of "Banjo Joe" & you might look under that name as well. I got a double album complete recordings on a label called "Herwin". The printing of their name on the cover makes it look like "Heroin" to me for some damn reason. Big Bill Broonzey is also really good & probably much easier to come by. Good Luck!
