Been a bit of a busy week around the evil conqueror's household, as we've been working our tail's off, I've been trying to keep WeiEmpire.com up to date, and free time's been sent watching a pile of movies.
Brief thoughts on those films:
I, Robot: Better than I thought, but I can understand why any Asimov fans might be mad. It's put together well, though, and beautifully directed by one of my fave directors, Alex Proyas.
Stepford Wives: about five good lines. Otherwise, blech. I can't believe Frank Oz wasted his time on it.
Saved: I came from a Christian school, so this movie definitely resonated with me. Amazing young cast and a superbly crafted, funny yet poignant movie.
Punisher: Mixed bag here. The first 40 minutes are annoying and drag horribly. Although I like Samantha Mathis, I couldn't wait for her to die, as every scene with Frank's family was quite annoying. After the Punisher finally comes forth, the movie improves although I have to question Rebecca Romijn-Stamos's casting as Joan the Mouse.
The Incredibles: My pick (so far) for the best movie of 2004. A cinematic achievement, it's most interesting for its completely anti-Disney message. And "Jack Jack Attack" is freaking hilarious.
Troy: Blech. Perhaps the creator's should actually have read an adaptation of the story before producing this film. For the most part, I think they just flipped through an issue or two of Age of Bronze, not reading it mind you, and based the entire movie on that. The number of former superheroes that populate the movie is stunning as well. An utter waste of 2 hours and 40 minutes of my life.
