Going to comic con next friday. getting excited, but then i feel disappointed in myself at the same time.

i've wanted to draw and write comics since i was in middle school. i dropped that idea for a while, but in the last 5 years or so i've rekindled the interest. especially since the first time i went to comic con in 2007. I made a promise to myself that someday i will have a booth there with artwork and books for sale with my characters and story.

I've gone to comic con every year since then, and everytime, it really makes me excited to do it. but then i lose motivation. ive gotten SO little done on my book/webcomic. I have a basic overall story, but no ending, no middle. ive only got a small handful of characters designed. i havent made any progress on learning how to draw clothing and environments better.

im not intending to put this out there for pity (cause i admit im a pity whore biggrin), just putting it out there in general. maybe it will help me a little more.

I've been working on a "cover" for the comic. i've set my firefly fan art aside for the time being because i just wasnt motivated to do it for some reason. but anyways, with this cover, i'm trying to practice my backgrounds alittle bit. the lines arent perfect because 1. i've got a shaky hand, but mainly 2. because thats how i want it. my main influence lately has been Gabriel Ba from Umbrella Academy. The lines are far from perfect, but it just looks sooo damn good

So anyways, here's what i got so far. its before i started coloring it, and the photos were taken with my phone, so the quality isnt great, but it gives an idea on what im working on right now.

the pose and the wall/ledge were inspired by this photo of Succor

So anyways, thats what i'm working on right now. i plan to spend more time at comic con this year walking the booths with the independent artists/writers to try and find more motivation and inspiration to finally get working on my stuff.

=====================

I discovered this band this morning, and they are so good
