Today was a definately one I will remember. I went to my buddies deli for breakfast and it was the one waitress's last day, she was recruited by the former owner for his place in violation of the sales agreement. My friend has put up with her crap and now she pulls this. I hope she enjoys the extra 20 minute ride to work and making less money. As a going away present, I left her a note and gave her my two cents worth, both literally and finacially.
I was in a good frame of mind and got a lot of work done. I put a dent into what has been cluttering up my desk and went to the post office inside of Alberson's. I stopped and bought a small bunch of flowers and went to Hooter's.
The last two girls that got them are gone, one we assume went back east to her boyfriend, and the other was just there for the summer and is back in Missouri for her final year of college. I miss them both.
There are a few people there that I will go out of my way to say hello to, one of them saved a man who was having a heart attack last summer. I saw something going on but just sat there and read my book. When she finally got back from getting him to the ambulance, my food was not very hot and she apologized about being a bad waitress. I ate the food and the next time I went in, gave her flowers to say thank you for saving a life(which was more than the guy she saved ever did for her). There are others that are on my A list and it is like going home to the visit friends.
There is one person there that I read wrong for a long time. She was a waitress and never seemed to have a smile, and seemed to be in her own world. A lot of the girls there will say hello as I am a regular, but not this one. She recently got into the management training program and after a week or so seemed to have a transformation. She is now an assisant manager and always says hello and has a friendly smile. I got to talking to her and the other her was dealing with things too stressful to imagine. Her daughter was in and out of the hospital for 2 years with a bad liver, and finally got her liver transplant this year, the little girl is 3 years old. The waitress "B" was spending all her free time at the hospital and the stress on her must have been intense.
Now that stress is gone she is really a totally different person. She is married with 2 daughters and she is a good person and I like her as a person.
I was there on Tuesday with a friend at a meeting and told B that there was something I needed to discuss with her the next time I was in. Today she was in early and I was the one with the stress. I know her for over 3 years and I drew a blank, I could not remember her name when I asked my waitress to get B for me.
B came by and was smiling and happy go lucky. I said that she knew me and that I might need her to explain the reason that I give flowers (sometimes it is as profound as it is Friday), to the next person I give them to, and did she really understand my motives. She said of course if there was any problem she would set the record straight, who is the lucky girl. I said, the flowers are for you.
The moment was special, she had no clue that it was going to happen. She was surprised and happy. She then said that she was having a really rough time and this was just what she needed. She gave me a big hug and kiss, and ran into the back to put them in water.
I thought that would be the end of it. I made another person's day, and that is my motive. To make the world a better place, one day at a time. It doesn't matter if it is for only 5 minutes or an hour, but her world or attitude toward it was better.
I was in the bathroom and the manager Iggy busted my chops on the flowers. Iggy said how come he doesn't get flowers, not to be undone by his statement, I said, I didn't know he was a switch hitter. We both laughed at that, and then he said that B was more than happy, was having some issues at home and the flowers could not come at a better time. Then he mentioned that she does have a thing for me. That may be true, but I will never find out, there are some lines I won't cross, but that made me feel that there is some love out there for me, I just haven't found it yet.
But the mad flower giver strikes again, and I am glad that for a few moments in time the world was a better place. smile
