Shrinking

Back in early October I was diagnosed with Diabetes type 2. Not surprising considering how bad my diet was. Since then, I've cut most carbs and red meat from my diet. I've reduced the amount I've been eating too and it's paying off. Most diabetic people I know have been telling me that I don't need such a strict diet and I can cheat occasionally. Most people I know who have it, just manage it. I'm not doing that because my plan is to kick Diabetes' ass.

Most people don't know it, but you can cure Diabetes type 2. My mom (I'm adopted) did it 20 years ago. Her doctor said she was the first patient she ever had that actually did it (most people won't do the work and just manage it). During my year in nursing school, we talked about this topic. Studies showed that you have 10 years from onset to reverse it. They don't tell patients that now. A coworker had no idea.

Rant time: Unfortunately, the medical field keeps moving the goal posts when it comes to type 2 diabetes. A year and a half after my mom was cured, they changed the threshold and overnight, she had diabetes again. I did notice that since we talked about curing it in 2019, they stopped calling it "cured" and now call it "remission." I do question whether the science changed or not. [rant over]

Right now, all I gotta do it take one drug (metformin), diet and exercise. I've been doing two out of three. I need to get back to the gym. I have a three month check-up in January and I'm expecting some kick ass numbers in my blood work. In time, I should be able to reduce the metformin dose and eventually get off it. Losing weight will likely get me off a couple more meds too.
