There's a lot of B.S. that comes out of people's mouths. A lot of things we say and don't mean. A lot of things that dont even make sense. I'm guilty of all of these things too.
"I'm gonna let you go" - This one people say when they want to get you off of the phone. The phrase itself means "Ok I am done talking to you now", but people in their ever burning desire to not possibly offend anyone in the least little way....try to make it sound like it's you, not them, that wants to get off the phone.
"I could care less" or "I couldn't care less" - People say both of these things. Which is it supposed to be? I understand if you could not possibly care less than you do already, that would mean that you care an incredibly small amount. But the first one, is that just supposed to be sarcasm? I suppose that would work like "we're talking about this now, but I could definately stand to be caring less about it".
"I've been looking for my keys all day and I found them in the last place I looked!" - Well no shit Sherlock! Are you going to keep looking for your keys after you've already found them?
"What can I do for you?" - Employees say this all the time in stores, and it doesnt mean anything at all. There's only so many things they can do for you, often times it's limited to 1 thing. A few months ago I went into a hair salon and the woman looked up from the front desk and said "What can I do for you?", to which I replied "You don't know what I'm here for?". She looked kind of stupified and said that she didn't. I tried to contain myself and very slowly I said "I would like a hair cut."
"I REALLY mean it" - I suppose that means you're full of crap when you only say "I mean it"?
"To be honest...." - so you're lying to me ALL the time?
"I'm not lying" - This is classic. If you were lying to me in the first place, and I had suspicion that you were lying, why would I believe it's any less of a lie when you tell me you're not lying? If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
"Don't I know you?" - Well if you have to ask I would say that's a big no. Maybe we've met, maybe you've seen me, but if you know me, I'd sort of assume that you would....know it.
"Give me ONE second" - Suuuuure
