So I'm feeling somewhat less philosophick now, which is rather ironic considering I have to write the final for my existentialism class today. I have begun the first step in that process, which is of course denial and procrastination, so I decided to use this opportune moment to update, before I move on to the next step (anger and resentment).
It's been snowing. The branches outside, which had grown fuzzy with wet, sticky snow, are now dripping away their burdens. The sun is shining, the air is crisp, and floes of ice are falling off the roof onto unsuspecting pedestrians, much to their bemusement. All in all, quite a nice day.
I am currently having a having a dilemma concerning die Weltmeisterschaft Deutschland '06, namely that I would like to go more than almost anything, but also can afford it less than almost anything, at least at the moment. This is due in large part to the fact that I got a job over a month ago but have not been allowed to actually work yet. I was in Germany for the last UEFA cup as well as the last World Cup, both of which were probably the best trips of my life. I've been planning on going this summer with my friends back home for years now, but I'll just have to see if it actually comes through. At any rate, it's going to be incredible, and if you are going then you have successfully filled my heart with envy and nostalgia. Huge crowds of Germans parading through the streets, waving banners and flags, shouting anthems and displaying explicit pride in their country is a rare enough event that it's not one you want to miss.
While I'm on the topic, the groups were drawn last friday. Poor USA. I envision a predictable group stage with few upsets followed by a head-stomping, heartbreaking tournament phase between all the top seeds and favorites.
Oh, and here is the little bundle of joy I went to visit over Thanksgiving. Yes, she is adorable, but behind that facade lies the soul a merciless Destroyer of Things. By the time this pic was taken she had already consumed the curtains, a beanie baby, three shoes, and two electric cords (as well as a brave attempt at her grumpy old grandpappy's tail).
I'd better go now, I feel the resentment kicking in...
