Do ya care? No? Well I'll tell you anyway. I got word on the 30th that I was getting on an airplane on the 1st to head "downrange" as we like to call it. All my training was done so the date wasn't much of a shock save that I was expecting to go a bit later. Meh. Had I known I would be leaving on the first I would have asked to go earlier. I'm not much of a New Year's Eve kinda guy anyway.

So, on an airplane I get: Vegas to Atlanta to Norfolk to the other side of the pond. Vegas to Atlanta, no worries. Atlanta to Norfolk, Delta (don't fly Delta...ever) leaves my bag in Atlanta. All isn't necessarily lost. As long as it makes the first flight from Atlanta to Norfolk on the 2nd there will be just enough time for the bag to make my flight out of Norfolk. Did I say, "don't fly Delta"? Yeah, the bag didn't make it. It did get delivered in time to make the flight that left on the 5th to head this way. With a layover at the transition base I may see my bag today, but probably tomorrow. Oh, by the way, it's 7 in the morning on the 7th here.

"Here' isn't terrible. The walking is treacherous what with all the fist sized rocks everywhere, but the job will be easy and I have it much better than my Army and Marine brethren in country. So I can't complain. Wouldn't feel right doing it anyway since I volunteered for this. I figured that since I'm so close (and so ready as it turns out) for retirement I should probably head East and see what all the hubbub is. I'll be back in the world in May, but I'll try to keep in touch. Bye.
