The link that i have put in my journal goes to a news story about PETA.
The reason i posted it is because it hit me hard. I would really like some opinions from the rest of you on how it made you feel....honest opinions. I will not judge you for yours if you can do the same for me.

I'm nursing. She's a good nurser and i really can't complain. She is actually sleeping at night pretty good. The evenings just kind of suck. I guess it's common for newborn's to be colicky in the afternoon and early evening for the first month or so. But I really don't remember that with my son. But, with that one exception, she's been a really easy baby. It;s basically everything else in my life that's been keeping me up at night.
Hope your day was better than yesterday.

fun things to do while trashed:
use the wall for support....seriously that's why it's there.
throw your cigs at people instead of the ground when your done with them.
explain to everyone that you aren't really drunk just dizzy and the words keep coming out all fuzzy.
have serious heart felt conversations with people while talking about the color of your pee intermittently.

We've actually had complaints about our cuteness.
I know that I'm quitting for good this time, because I've quit every week for the past two months. Basically, I've been smoking for two or three days, and then quitting for two or three. I've gotten to the point where I don't even get severe withdrawl symptoms. Just the cravings. Yelling seriously did help, though! I felt a lot better. I think the important thing is that you swear, though. Yelling, "PONIES!" or, "BLENDER!" probably wouldn't have the the same effect.

Ah! Get rid of them! I had to make sure not to through my last pack out, though. I smoked them all, because damnit, I paid for them!
Other things that help are:
Lots of water. Lots and lots of it. Both when you feel like smoking, AND when you get those food craving that you get as you're quitting.
Gum.
Nicotine gum. But I didn't use it as prescribed. I put it in when I got a really bad craving, and then I would keep it in for up to a day. The same piece. This way, all of the nicotine would be gone from it, but you're still tricking your brain into thinking that it's getting what it wants. This also makes the regular gum more effective, because you start equating all gum with that satisfaction you get from not smoking.
When you get a craving, start thinking of all the bonuses from not smoking. Not just health, but the more tangible ones, too. More money, smell better, etc.
Those are the tricks that I used, and I'm positive that I'm done smoking for good now.

However, I am not convinced that I need to become a vegetarian. What I have done about this is I have tried as much as I can to purchase meat from local farms, either through the farmers' markets or through my local coop grocery store. These animals were raised with more care and attention than those raised in factory cages.
I think connecting with local farmers helps to humanize us all, and helps us to better connect with the world around us.
I believe that factory farming is an outgrowth of consumer capitalism, where everything is commodified and produced as cheaply as possible, without regard to quality or benefit to the world as a whole. I believe organic farming and family owned farms are better for us and better for the planet.
I'd recommend reading Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal" if you haven't already.
Of course, this comment is brief and doesn't really begin to cover the whole of the issue, but I wanted to tell you my basic opinion. I'm interested to see what others say about this.
I don't feel strongly about the animal issue. It has been done for thousands of years. They ate us, when they could, to survive, and still do in some cases. I know what we do to animals on the whole can be seen as terrible, and this debate is long-standing. However, there is something that just feels natural and normal to me about eating meat. I know how we get it, and I know it's "wrong", but I'm lucky to work at a store that does it's best to carry meats that are farmed in a sustainable humane way (I know there will be naysayers on this point, pointing out that it's all talk). Unfortunatley, the mass populace is not willing to go out and hunt, clean, and prepare their own food. This too has been the norm for many years.
It's all opinion. I don't feel anyone is wrong for not wanting to eat meat and I'd like not to be told I am for wanting to. That, to me, seems fair.
