And how are you my petals? Did you enjoy New Years? I certainly did, spent as it was in the company of lovely, lovely people getting ever-so-slightly bladdered. And thankfully there was no kissing Scotsmen this year, seeing as how the only one there was MisterCreosote and I'm telling you, not enough booze in the WORLD.

Normally I find myself becoming all maudlin and introspective around the New Year's period. I tend to wax lyrical about missed opportunities, turning a new leaf and suchlike. I kind of missed that all this year though. Maybe I'm outgrowing my wide-eyed youthful emotional exuberance. Maybe I was just too drunk. Who knows. On reflection, though, it's been a pretty good year. I got a much better job, I did things I'd never done before just for the sheer joy of doing it, I indulged my not-so-inner child so much I now have an inner-spoilt-brat, I found music that makes me want to dance around the room at 3am (the only accolade that really means a damn). Oh, and I suppose I got you guys too kiss

BIG POPPA CREAMY'S AUDIOGOODNESS

Asian Kung-Fu Generation - N.G.S
Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Flashback: I've got two tracks by this first band for you, mainly because I only heard them recently and pretty much fell in love with them. The name put me off, as with a name like that the cynic in me expects a wanky Indie four-piece from Toronto that makes songs with as much life and passion as Joan Rivers. They are, however, a storming Japanese pop-punk band. I don't have the first clue what they're singing about but they do it with an infectious earnestness and punchy hooks. Flashback is a little more straightforward whereas N.G.S., my favourite of the two, swings between a niftily melody and lyrics bursting with a stuttery, frenetic cool and a barnstorming chorus. Creamy likey.

Idlewild - A Modern Way Of Letting Go: Sorry, can someone please explain to me the exact moment when Idlewild actually started to rock like bastards? This almost seems to be the equivalent of their Song 2, ditching the maudlin Indie musicianship, putting their heads down and charging stright for the finish line, guitars a-blazing.

Children Of The Monkey Machine - Silent Hill 2 (Static Aversion Mix): Ok, the first batch of songs were all quite straightforward, so I feel the need for something a little more obtuse and challenging now. This one comes courtesy of OverClocked Remix, a site dedicated to remixing Videogame music and doing it with absolute aplomb. It's a site well worth visiting by all you hipster/nerds, along with VGMix. This is a remix of the excellent music from Silent Hill 2, this one a rather slow, ambient piece that uses static noises to mask a leisurely build up and transition between movements before switching to moody guitar that's heavy on the effects pedal. It's almost too slow but then the whole track bursts into life with some wonderfully effusive fuzzball guitar backed up by piano around the five minute mark. Something of an acquired taste, this one.

Do you mind if I come along to your birthday bash? I was kicked out of SGUK since I didn't go on SG much for about 2 weeks at the start of this year and miss the "keep me in thread". If you don't mind, please could you send me details as I doubt I will be in the group before the event.
