Well. I suppose I should probably update at this point. I shan't say that much about the weekehnd other than:

*I had much fun
*I busted out my mad, crazy-fresh dance moves. FEAR THEM.
*Serenity rocks my oversized, Firefly-loving socks. For the love of all that is holy go watch it you heathens.

Moving on, I'm hereby starting what I intend to be a semi-regular feature in my journals:

Big Poppa Creamy's Blogtastic, Blogerrific Music Blog (of Blogginess) (working title)

Yes, in the tradition of indie hipsters everywhere, I'm going to scour my harddrive for all the weird and wonderful mp3s I seem to have on there and upload them to the webspace I hardly ever use for your listening pleasure. However, unlike most music bloggers, I refuse to post meandering, uninteresting songs from the overhyped Indie band of the moment. And most of all, I promise you this:

NO FUCKING ARCADE FIRE OR FIERY FURNACES.

Ok, first off the bat:

Reuben - Blamethrower

I just picked up the Reuben album recently on the strength of a few tracks and it's kind of a mixed ride for me. Some of the tracks I'm really digging on but a lot of the rest just feel kind of pedestrian. Blamethrower is possibly the standout track for me. It's fast, heavy and very angry. There's such energy, bile and vitriol pumped into the song that you can hear the singer's exhaustion by the end of the track. Right now this is my 'Well fuck you too buddy' anthem.

Johnny Boy - You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve (Crews Against Consumismo Remix)

I have no idea how different this is from the original version as I've never heard it. However, if Blamethrower is my anthem for my more anti-social moments, then YATGTBMSAYGWYD (catchy acronym, huh?) is what I'll have playing when I accept my trophy for being So Goddamned Awesome. There's a very 'WE WON! WE WON!', jubilant feeling to it, using what sounds like triumphant hollers to help build a melody and a slightly snotty 'YEAH YEAH!' running through it. I lack the pretentiousness chops to start talking about 'swooping synths' or 'glitchy samples' so I'll just say it's really damn good.

Ratatat - Cherry

I got into Ratatat a while ago and bought their album after listening to 'Seventeen Years', probably the best track on the album, and one whilch I'll probably post in a future entry. For now though I wanted to slow things down a notch with my current chill-out track of choice. Ratatat are a two-piece outfit who are hard to categorise. They use a guitar and synths to produce a kind of warm lo-fi instrumental hip-hop with smatterings of stadium rock that kind of sounds like an old Megadrive game soundtrack. A lot of the slower, more sedate tracks on the album can devolve into rather dull noodling but when they decide to kick it up a notch then I defy you to stop yourself from shaking dat bootay. Cherry is a track that takes it's sweet damn time getting anywhere, but the payoff is smooth like audio buttah and I just can't help myself but groove to it. Stick with it to the end, it's worth it.

So. What you guys think of the tracks? Is this something I should keep doing? Let me know.

P.S. A note to munch: I know you only have crappy dial-up and so hardly ever download anything, so if you do, only the first track has guitars and shouting.
