On August 22, Soundcloud is completely eliminating groups. This is a really bad idea. Groups enabled me to find the right audience for the kind of remixes and mashups I create. As a new DJ/music producer, the groups feature was really the only way an unknown like me would even get heard and now that is gone.
It looks like Soundcloud wants to be another Spotify or iTunes now, but we already have those. That market is already saturated. I can understand that some tweaking might be necessary for Soundcloud to keep up with the times. But to totally eliminate what made it special to so many is really sad. Imagine if SG decided to remove groups. There would be less community here. That is how it is now going to go down with Soundcloud.
I cancelled my account with great regret. Yesterday I shared the excitement of new music to be posted around the holidays in my blogs from yesterday. But now, it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I need to find a new platform to post my remixes. If you know of any alternatives that I might consider, please let me know in the comments.
But for now, I guess you could say that I'm Soundcloud history with nothing more to contribute. And I was just beginning to grow a fan base too. This is really sad news for me today and I'm sure it is for many other artists like me as well.
