i'm basically pretty much in love with my job.
which is like, really werid to say, but whatev'.
for the most part, it's working espresso bar. i absolutely love making drinks, foaming milk, etc. the other parts aren't so bad, but i'm the happiest at and on the bar. i'd rock to join the barista competition they have, but, until i learn how to pour shots without a machine doing everything - i wouldn't do too well. i have been reading about espresso, espresso machines, drinks (more indepth than what i've been taught), milk and coffee.
i seriously just want to keep reading and reading. i also need to be tasting more coffees at work. i mean, i'm not a big black coffee drinker, but i enjoy it. i also enjoy learning the differences between coffees and the different things you can taste in each. it's actually a bit easy to tell which coffees come from which region.
at work, i practice making my foam when i have time to. and i get a little irked when i'm working with other the milk other people have steamed, because most people don't care to make 'microfoam', as it's called. i've learned a lot just from noticing what works best, but also reading.
i think one of the reasons i like my job so much is that, i get to work with my hands. i get to create in a sense, and as an artist, making things, even if the receipe is already set, is what i enjoy doing. when the woman comes in an orders a two-and-a-half venti half-pump vanilla two-percent extra-dry foam caramel macchiato, i get excited, because it puts a twist on what i have to make.
i'm so happy to have something i enjoy doing, something that doesn't require college.
i was told that all the jobs i'd have before i got into an actual career were just going to be crap.
honestly, even when i go to college and get my major(s), i would still love to be working as a barista on the side as well. it'd even be wicked cool to have my own stuff at home to make my own.
my goals for my self right now (regarding work) are to keep reading up more on drinks/coffee/milk/etc, get my coffee tastings done, move on to the next training booklet, and be the first coffee master at my store. (: that would be the best ever, and i know my manager would help me along the way.
other than work...
i've been surrounded by family for the past week. it get's kind of obnoxious, my family is very religious - 'cept me. but it was really nice to see my family from out of state again, especially my cousin. i'm just, not working with the whole family thing right now, i need to get away from it. their views and mine clash so much, i feel kind of held back - in a sense, that i can't express myself around them.
i got a lomography fisheye camera for christmas, and i am getting pictures back from the three rolls of film i've used in less than a week of taking pictures. i'm pretty excited about this, i'm a digital baby, and even just a lomo camera is making me happy to be using something different with. i still need to find a place to develop my holga pictures.
i'm going to be investing the 500 dollars i got for christmas from my grampa on my dad's side into a digital SLR. i've been a lot more into photography lately, which is really nice. i just want to keep going out and taking pictures. it'd also be nice to get a polaroid camera too.
i love cameras.
