We don't pick up hitchhikers. invite travelers into our homes for food or shelter,fuck we don't even talk to our neighbors. The sensationalism of modern journalism has us convinced that we are besieged by murders, rapists and other deviants. Trust no one and keep your doors locked behind gated "communities" (ever noticed that they're not very communal?) Is it paranoia or prudence? Flattery and comments are always welcome.

And here in america where we are even further removed from our ancient traditions and also where there is so much conflict and predation it is usually not a good idea to invite people into your home.
