For those who weren't there, the Birmingham leg of the Slave to the Metal tour was pretty good. It was good to see the Alabama has some good metal acts out...and not so good to see some of the music that's put out around here.

And, excuse me, I gotta rant really quick.

Why in the FUCK would a band that plays radio rock, especially radio rock COVERS, sign up to play a show called Slave to the METAL?!
Birmingham got two nights of STTM, and if you took out the cockrock that was played, you would have only had one night. 3 cover bands, 2 (or more, not sure) original alt rock bands, and some what I guess labelites would call 'agrorock' played this weekend, on a show that was supposed to be dedicated to headbanging and mosh pitting...

Now, were the bands bad? No, they were actually good musicians. But, once more, Slave. To. The. METAL.

Not Slave to the Corporate Cock Rock.

End rant.

Something that DID make me really happy though...the complete and total lack of scenester shit heads. The folks in attendance were there to see some fuckin' METAL, and it was awesome.

Mistress Juliya is a complete and total sweetheart, despite what I had been hearing. And from the copious amount of time that I was able to spend with her just chilling out, she's far from being a poser. She took a lot of time out to hang with people, actually mingling in with the crowd, not just sitting behind a table signing autographs, too. Which was cool.

And, yeah, it was cool that she came to Houston and I, interrupted our conversation with someone else, shook our hands, and began to rave about how she sees so many shitty bands on the tour, but there's always that one band that sticks out, and we were that band. Then we went on to discuss the finer points of coat hanger abortions (which got a high five from her!), the contagiousness (real word) of a good ol' Southern drawl, and how much we hate people who try to look mad in pictures (see attached photo to see how we fought back).

And my girlfriend turned 21 as we took the stage, which was cool. She got plastered. Which was funny. She's awesome that way.

Apparently we did really well this whole weekend.

So smiles are going around.

Not very death metal-y, I know, but still.

Good weekend.
