I think we might be slipping in our education. Got this from a Philosophy prof. in my building.

What it took to get an 8th grade education in 1895...

This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 in Salina , Kansas , USA
.. It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey
Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina , and...

This test has been going around a while -- people who've looked into it seriously have determined it's not a test for 8th grade students, but for TEACHERS applying for the job.

I am getting so tired of waiting. July 15th (Leave for MFA Residency) can't come fast enough. I have a few things between now and them, but I'm really not looking forward to them. I'll be going to the regional pool tournament during the first weekend in June, with the whole drama crowd, and I am not looking forward to it. At least this year...

Lots of people doing deep thinking out there in SG-land. So, here is something for them all to think about:

"Critics are worth absolutely nothing: all they do is point an accusing finger at the moment the strong suffer a defeat, or when they commit a mistake. True credit goes to those who are in the arena, their faces covered in dust and sweat and...

I find the whole "don't assume you know what I'm thinking!" line kind of silly, sorry. I don't assume I know what you're thinking, I can only go on what you post, and what you posted sounded exactly like what a zillion other people who get all hard over prison violence post. I have no way of knowing otherwise.
thistle:
I think it's a little ridiculous to be expected to ask for clarification on someone's post before commenting on it.

Why didn't YOU ask for clarification about whether I was talking only about you or about a larger trend before saying I shouldn't assume I know what you're thinking?

I don't think either would be reasonable. It would completely impinge discussion.

You know, there are many things I just don't understand in life:

How someone can break off a long-term relationship and start another within just a few weeks;

Why anybody would watch "Everybody Loves Raymond";

Why someone would turn themselves into a billboard for a corporation and pay for the privilege (logo t-shirts);

Why the only women who claim to be interested in me are...

Hi, everybody!
Good couple of days. Got a call on Monday that I made the MFA Program. That means Master of Fine Arts, which is a terminal degree, and means that I can get all sorts of swanky job titles and tenure and stuff!

Feelin' good, roommate free. Now, if I could just find a job from May 15 to June 30 and I'll be...

I just learned that my cousin's husband (soon to be ex-husband) was murdered while on a visit to his family in Mexico.

I am largely unsure what to do.

Ok, enough with the birthday blog.

Yesterday, I applied for an MFA program (Master of Fine Arts). An MFA degree is a terminal degree, which would allow me to apply for full-time, tenure-track teaching positions and work in my preferred area.

I will know if I got in or not in the next few weeks.
