"the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" NRA's Wayne LaPierre
America...just a anation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomforable" Hunter S. Thompson
Wayne Lapierre may be a part of the gun problem here in America, as his quote does not aim to solve the problem of aggressive and violent actions in America, but his ideas mean only to put one pit bull in a cage against another pit bull, so to say. There is a violence problem here in America, but is the answer only to defend ones self against someone with a gun, by having your own gun. What about solving the problems of why people wish to cause so much harm, and only feel that violence is the answer. What is it about Americans that they choose to harm or murder others because of emotional trauma or hurt feelings, maybe a wife cheated on another, so anger may lead to wanting to end anothers life? One may think of urban gangsters in gun battles over who gets to sell crack on one street corner, thus being only resolved by the death of one side. It is a complicated piece to tackle. While I am not against the privilege to have a weapon, and I do recognize that there may be a time in ones life where they will be in harms way and the best option may be to have a weapon or gun to defend themselves with. To me Lapierre is only responding to a problem that is far deeper than he may want to admit.
The quote in our reading from Thompson shows more understanding to the problems of America. While I have been in contact with some of Thompsons other work, this may give me a bias to as what is really being said. However, as I take this quote to say that the problem in America is the mindset of peoples. The used car salesmen analogy speaks to the relentless need to sell a car, but in this case to better ones self by any means. The quote shows to me that even in one of the most progressive free countries in the world; we are still very sensitive to threats from around the world. American violence is almost a product that can be bottled and sold as an energy drink to countries around the world. I would not be surprised if there has or is something along that line in our government, as a real product or an idea. While the general public has limited knowledge about the truth to such violence around the world, granted becoming more comprehensive with the unity the internet provides, it remains strange that violent acts with guns can be so numerous here in America compared to other countries. I would have to say that Thompson feels there is a problem in the mindset of people that will cause the gun problems we see. With a counter from Lapierre almost saying there is only one solution and that is to kill or be killed when faced to a person whom means to cause oneself harm. I would prefer the route of mental health and that as a society just and a morally progressive shift can occur that would reduce the number of gun deaths in America and around the world.
Small writing project i'd like to share. Sad world that we live in with all the school shootings, movie shootings, mall shootings....but i will never be one to say that guns are the problem

Wayne Lapierre is a fucking idiot. I hate to say it but anybody who agrees with him NEEDS TO BE SHOT! It's not about guns it's about people with mental problems who have access to guns. One of the problems NOT being addressed is mental health and depression. And these problems are highest in America than in any other country.
