I watched this interview with J K Rowling and it reminded me that I am NOT the only person writing. It's weird, I live in a world where I just read and read and talk to other people who either don't care about literature, or they read a little. There aren't many people who read as much as I do. And even fewer who write their own stuff. I forget that sometimes. I wonder how many other writers just don't mention their work to other people because they think it's boring. It's not. It was nice listening to to 'normal' women talking about wiriting and about reading. I guess my addiction is fuelled by the fact that I have a (day) job where I can just put on an audiobook and work at the same time. I'm slowly working my way through A Clash of Kings by George Martin (thanks to the TV show and my little brother for giving me THAT bug). Then I have 'A Casual Vacancy' on the go as well. In book form, rather than audiobook. It's quite good, very very different to Jo's other work. I like that. It's an amazing thing, seeing her style and genre change. The words 'fuck', 'penis' and 'cunt' have all already been used and I'm only about 30 pages in. I almost giggle every time because this is Jo. Haha. It's like reading erotica written by your own mother!

And then there's the fanfiction. I'm still into the Potter fanfiction. I don't actually think there's anyone on this earth that's a bigger Potter fan than me. I don't know anyone who is... which is a little sad. Haha. I'm re-reading the Draco series by Cassandra Claire. Just because it's a stonkingly good adventure series and I love those. But yes, back to that interview. It inspired me a little. I feel really excited about my own books. One is almost done, one is almost started. I just need to find the time to bite the bullet, finish one and start the other. I am so excited about my new book idea. It will be like a victorian adventure book, set in the modern day. Steampunk SHOWS US that you don't have to live in Victorian times to have a steam-powered hovercraft. Oh no. In a way, writing books is similar to getting sets bought by SG. You can work as hard as you like to make a masterpiece, but there's no guarantee that anything will come of it. It might rot in member review (or in the case of books, a publisher's filing cabinet) for all time or for some inexplicable reason, it might be the lucky one that gets picked up. I guess I'm scared of the ordeal of publishing, but I wish for it at the same time. This is turning into a bit of a ramble, isn't it. But then, I relish how self indulgent blogging is.

Here's my cat and his new best friend (a housewarming gift that was a bit of a joke because I already have Nads, the sheep's skull) but now I have a goat too, any ideas on a name?

And some scenery...
