I am back from San Diego but have returned to a bad scene. My roommates 17yr old nephew died on Friday.

Thursday night he went to a concert and one of the people he was with had some methadone. He took some . . . he made it through the night and the next afternoon he vomitted in his sleep, did not wake up and asphyxiated. His mother, a nurse, arrived home to find him covered in vomit in his bed, found him unresponsive, and worked for ten minutes to revive him before the paramedics showed up. I do not even wish to explore the horror that she must have and still is going through.

I have never understood the attraction to drugs. I do not even understand the attraction to drunkenness. I do not understand why a 17yr old kid that is smart enough to get a full ride to college would be stupid enough to use a drug intended to get people off of heroin as a means of getting high.

I guess I don't understand a lot.

But that does not change the fact that I am both saddened and pissed off at this complete waste of a life.

I think I understsood the appeal when I was 17. Luckily I had enough bad experiences to wise up pretty quickly...

It's a tricky business...

Three thoughts:

- there's a hilarious song by The Magnetic Fields called 'Zebra', ever heard it?

- I don't wish to be cheeky here (who am I kidding?), but is 'Fallen Angles' some kind of instructional video about geometry?

- your humblest moment is great. I never know what to put for this, but I think you've nailed it!

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't understand any attraction to drugs ( Although my reasons for never starting smoking is vecause I am tight.) I just try to be there for those who are attracted.
