I finally got around to processing a few pictures from the trip. Here are a few higlights . . .
Route 66 Day 1 - Chicago
This was actually Day 6 of our travels, having started in California and flown to Philly via Houston. A small diversion to NYC ended up being three days followed by stop over in Cleveland.
Lake Michigan was looking a bit solid that day, so we ended up chipping some ice off a ladder, in effect 'dipping a finger' in the body of water marking the beginning of our trip.

Route 66 Day 2 - Tom's Modern Cabins in Missouri
We had a hard time finding these. The original I-40 alignment in this area followed Route 66 and these were supposed to be on the North frontage road. This section went around a large rock outcropping that they blasted a path through recently. If it were not for us spotting a different motel that was now on the south side of the new alignment, we never would have found them.
There are a set of Burma Shave signs in front of the cabins that read:

Route 66 Day 4 - Cadilac and Bug Ranch
First we stopped at Bug Ranch where we left our mark on a few of the bugs
We almost missed Cadilac Ranch, but that was solved with small u-turn
I couldn't help myself . . . I had to climb on them
So did Stiles
Route 66 Day 5 - Nice roads Arizona!!!
Since we were trying to follow as much of old Route 66 as possible, we ended up on some interesting strectches. A few days earlier, we took this old paved section just outside Clinton, OK. It was a part of Route 66 that used to be a two-lane divided highway. The east-bound lane remained intact, but the west-bound had become a bit overgrown.
The guidebook we had listed this section in Arizona as a 'rough road'. We thought it might be similar to the Oklahoma section. Boy were we wrong!!!
At the end we saw this sign
Who needs a suspension anyway!!!!
