I just got in from my second Camp Pendleton Mud Run. Even though I tweeked my knee around mile 2 (6.2 total) I managed to put in a decent time.
The three main highlights of the run were:
3) Laying on my belly in a puddle of mud and then playing 'Hug a Marine' to a few that looked a little too clean. Oddly enough, they seemed to enjoy it.
2) Shoving my friend in the back while we were navigating one of the mud pools and watching her fall down in 2ft of muddy water. She only made it worse by trying to pull me in after her . . . which ended up finding her dragged a good 10ft through the muck.
Doing a baseball style slide through a big puddle right at the end (with only minor prompting by the Marines) showering participants, Marines and spectators alike. I couldn't help sitting in the puddle admiring my handywork with a big . . . uh . . . mud eating? grin on my face.
This time I know there are pictures. I bought a disposable water-proof camera ahead of time and handed it back and forth with my friend throughout the run.
Unless I suddenly find myself unable to move this evening (which I doubt will happen), 8pm at the Goat Hill for post-run beers and an early birthday celebration is still on. Don't worry, I will shower first . . .
