why is it a day of work right after a vacation is so horrible? i suppose comparing it to what you were doing only 24 hours earlier doesn't help, huh?

i went on my mini vacation. i was on the deschutes river for 2 days and it was marvelous. being right there, face to face with nature, and as far from civilization as you can get these days. one of my favorite things of river trips is falling asleep before 9 and walking up with the sun. despite the interuptions of a nearby train, i slept rather well. i also got to try a little bit of everything, since there was nearly 20 of us, if i didn't want to paddle my kayak, it was easily strapped on top of one of the gear rafts. for the first day, i hung out on a gear raft and soaked up some sun. The second day was even better. the first half, i paddled a kayak. the last half i paddled a tandem canoe with my love. we flipped it for the first time together too! oh so much fun and damn good pictures.

sometimes i never want to leave the river, and others i'm dying to be back home. the greatest feeling is sitting in the car on the ride home after a river trip. feeling more accomplished, lucky, and grateful for what you have to go back home too.
