K, yesterday was just about the coolest day EVER. Okay, maybe not EVER, but it was deffinitely the coolest day in a long time.

So, to start off the coolness, I get to sleep in until somewhere near 11am, which is just awesome, since I almost never get to do that. Then my roomate gets home from work at about 12:30ish and we sit in the living room playing Medal of Honor for like 4 hours or something stupid.

Now, my roomate had been requisitioned by one of our co-workers to go over to his place and help set up his new 46 inch Sony Wega TV and surround sound system. Just before he was about to leave, he looks at me and says, "You wanna come along?"

"Sure, what the hell have I got planned today? Whynot."

So we hop in the car and make our way there. NICE place! Not esspecially huge, mind you, but for a typical sub-urban house, this was a nice place. So the TV is in the basement (which they use as their living room), and this basement just SCREAMS party room. Fully carpetted, lots of room, and yes, there was an air-hockey table in the corner. How cool is that?

Okay, so we start to analyse the room we have to work with. At which point we get full authorization to remodel his living room! Schweet! So we completely turn their living room around (made for a better speaker set-up). And then we get to experience the joy that was figuring out how to wire a DVD player, a VCR, a PS2, and a digital cable box through this reciever AND make sure everything works properly.

So, for about 3 1/2 hours, I'm fighting with cords that are too short, a reciever that just does NOT want to fit into the TV stand that it came with, a digital cable box that flat out refused to co-operate with ANY idea I came up with, and a whole mess of wires running every-which way but the right one. All the while, my roomate is 'persuading' a couple of speaker mounts into the wall behind me, using just about every tool he could get his hands on.

Throughout this whole ordeal, our co-worker's wife is alternately bringing out beer for us (god bless that woman), and sitting on the stairs making every lewd comment that comes to her mind and making fun of the three of us as we grumble and snarl at these poor, innocent electronics.

About two hours into our gong show, we get called upstairs for supper (They're making us supper too?! Sweet mother of mercy!). Roast beef, corn, the creamiest mashed potatoes I've had in a long time, all topped with some kick-ass gravy. And as a little treat... some of the BEST cheese I have EVER had in my entire life. I'm not kidding, this cheese was damn-near orgasmic in it's dairy-goodness!

Okay, so we get back to work. Finally we get everything hooked up (after fighting with the most ornery drop-ceiling I've ever come across), and test it out.

Almost nothing is working right. We check connections, we read the instructions (after we hook everything up, naturally), we push a lot of buttons... nothing. Finally the wife comes down as says something silly like "Why don't you just set the TV to Video 1?". We sort of snicker a little, in that condescending way guys-at-work will, and figure "What could it hurt?"

So we set the TV to Video 1, and sure enough, everything works fine. Gentlemen, I believe we are all required to hang our heads in shame and offer our appologies to the nice lady...

For shame, gentlemen, for shame.

So we finally got everything working, my roomate sat in front of the set for like 20 minutes adjusting the settings for maximum effect, and we all watched Gwen Steffani on big-screen surround-sound! And for the celebratory feast.... some fantastically rich chocolate cake LOADED with frosting! YAY!

Then home and to bed... What a day! biggrin
