the following journal entry is brought to you by Roundy's Quality Cherry Flavor Night Time multi-symptom cold medicine...

I remember Tortise vs. Hare I. me and my buddies tailgated before the big contest. red kool aid and oatmeal cookies back by the reading table.

i was always a hare guy. my dad, my whole family were big hare supporters. from way back.

the race started out great. a complete ass kicking was taking place. there was no WAY tortise could catch up (i thought.) i taunted some tortise people, then went back and threw down a few red ones with some of my fellow hare fans.

yeah, you know what happened next. you can imagine my shock when i arrived back at my desk and heard the news. at first i refused to believe it. how could hare lose? he's fucking hare! and tortise is... tortise.

over the next several years i witnessed, both by word of mouth and through various illustration styles, hare getting beat again and again. i guess i just got used to it.

eventually i jumped on the tortise bandwagon. not because i liked him any more than hare, but because its more fun to make tortise out of construction paper.

Frankly, I never liked either of them. Sure, the tortoise is supposed to be the underdog, but he always struck me as an awfully sore winner. And wtf fuck was he thinking racing a hare, anyway? Sans the napping issues, he'da been schooled. Eh.

Apropos your comment yesterday: I know what you mean, about there being too much out there already. I guess I justify my own contributions in the "that shit sucks and/or is wrong" sense. Not to mention, culture is accelerating just fine regardless of what I do. There'd have to be a movement dedicated to cutting down on culture for there to be any point to that (and what a dull movement that'd be...I can just hear the rallying cry "...*..." or somesuch).

Oops, now I'm ranting. Later.
