It's sad, in the sense that the Basquiat painting represents something that shouldn't be saddled with a pricetag and clout..also in the sense that high priced art creates and extends the tired high art/low art dichotomy, which every art student should be sick of discussing by third semester. Still relevant, but tired.

Look on the bright side..at least it didn't sell for, like, squillions and squillions of dollars.
