Where were you 5 years ago?
I had won plane tickets in January of 2001.....free plane tickets to anywhere in the lower 48 states, canada, or the bahamas......guess which one I picked? lol
One stipulation on the tickets is that we had one month to pick out dates to use the tickets (somewhere between february 2001 and december 2001).....I worked in the theater industry at the time and the slowest part of the year is right after the high school and under kids go back to school. I picked September 13 as the date we would fly out. Once the date was set, there was no changing it.
I remember the morning of September 11th very vividly (it's our generation's pearl harbor or kennedy)....my father called me very early and I remember him babbling something about me maybe not going on my trip but I was so tired that I blew him off. Not too soon after that, my bf's (at the time) mom called and was frantic. She kept screaming to turn on the TV and that "the towers were gone".
I remember feeling such dred......There was no way I wanted to be on a plane, let alone out of the country and away from my family when I had no idea what the next few days would bring. We forfeited our tickets (we had the option of picking a different date but it must be within 30 days....and I was heading back to school two weeks after that and I didn't want to fly period)......it was surreal for so long.....
It still seems like it was yesterday!
Remember all those that were effected by this tragedy.......those who were heroes.....those who were fathers.....mothers......sisters.....brothers......daughters.......sons........remember and never forget!
