Anyway I've found at least for me, yeah you're approaching it okay but don't ever beg, don't ever been anything you're not, its not worth it, there are just as many cliques here as there are in the physical world, however possibly I'm giving you exceptionally shit advice. The no friends group isn't a bad start, but for me I'd say any of the sex related groups aren't too good, but that just my opinion , I think the reason you might have been rejected for the regional groups, is you have to start by maintaining a regular journal and have enough pictures of yourself around so people are convinced you're not weird (even though I definitely am). Then try again.
Basically if you get out there you'll get noticed, positive/negative whatever, you have to get out there, sometimes you have to take a risk, anyway personally I'm the kind of guy who likes to get to know someone before I contemplate friending them, but others are different.
