The ground is much less even behind us and we've struggled so hard to get as far as we have. I'd get caught up trying to step over the people he's already knocked down. And he's so very far behind.
I don't think I could watch the way forward grow ever more distant. The only way I could walk backwards as fast as he is would be to keep looking the other way.
