yay... I picked up a paintbrush again for the first time in eight years.. last time I painted anything was in a drawing & painting class in highschool and I wasn't happy with anything I did back then..

I did an acrylic painting of the scene in the stained glass pattern I mentioned in my last entry. it's to the point now where it could be done, but there are a few things I want to touch up. I'm fairly happy with how it came out, but it's just a practice version of a larger painting I want to do.

the torso is plaster too. the xt racing sign is aluminum though... i don't have a good picture of that up yet though. aluminum.. i use 1/8"... whatever gauge that is 11ga or something. you have to keep annealing it to get it to move without cracking, and it work hardens quickly... but it'll never rust. takes different tool and a bit of getting used to. thickness depends on the job... in some places you need thick stuff. silicon bronze is nice too, more similar to aluminum than steel. i used to work a lot in hammered steel... but if you want to make something big... kinda gets to a point where you need two people to move the thing around. the braid ia aluminum too... tapered and rounded three 5/8 solid bars about five feet long, then started braiding with a torch... took about three hours or so. a power hammer helped that one along wink

it's a bit of both. did a body cast, but ended up carving the whole thing, then painted it silver just to be able to see the form better... i used different color plasters, and silver covers everything. i made a mold of it and now i'm finishing the final copy out of graphite imbedded plastic.
