"Da Ali G Show" grew on me like a well-nurtured crack addiction. Not only does a English dude with the quintessentially British Jewish name of Sascha Baron-Cohen do spot on imitations of a suburban London gangsta, an Austrian fashionista and a Kazakhstani television reporter while interviewing celebrities and everyday Americans - but his characters are taken seriously against all odds.

Take Borat the Kazakhstani reporter. Borat, a lost sheep of a Central Asian with an oversized mustache, ill-fitting suit and dodgy shoes, wanders into a different aspect of American life each week to explain this nation to a fictional Kazakh TV audience. Borat goes to a country music club, Borat goes house shopping, or Borat tries out new hobbies, just to give a few examples.

Baron-Cohen's genius is to use Borat to bring out the best in his subjects. Y'see: That krazy Kazakh is also violently misogynistic and anti-semitic.

When Borat performed on open mike night at a suburban Phoenix country club, he performed a song called "Throw the Jew Down the Well" that ended up with the audience singing and cheering along, with one woman even making little devil horn pantomimes with her pinkies.

So now the Anti-Defamation League are accusing Sascha Baron-Cohen/Ali G/Borat of being "irresponsible." Fucking choking joykillers man, that shit is FUNNY.

----
The top ten Borat moments:

1. Borat is at an interpretive dance class where dancers act out pictures they draw.

Borat: "I do a picture, only small, of the Tishnik Masacre. Where many Uzbecks... Crushed!"
Man: "How did you feel when you drew this?"
Borat: "Very proud!".
Man: "I am just listening with sadness for your people."
Borat: "No, it is not sad. It is us that do the kill!"

---

A very well dressed black servant pours Borat a glass of wine.
Borat: "He is your slave?"
Man: "No no no"
Borat: "He is his slave?" (Borat points to the other man).
Man: "No no no, he is not a slave at all. We don't have slaves here anymore."
Borat: "Why you stop?"
Man: "Well it was a law that was passed. that they could no longer be used as slaves." (pause) "...which is a good thing."
Borat: "Yes." (pause) "...but not so much for you."

---

---

Borat: "Is your husband at home?"
Woman: "No".
Borat: "We want to speak to somebody who can vote".
Woman: "That's it, just me"
Borat: "But you are a woman?".
