Non-Hallmark Mother's Day sentiments
Happy Mother's Day to all the brave women who made love to a man and--whether accidentally, sort of "accidentally," on purpose, or just by wonderful chance--got pregnant and took the risk of creating a new life. And endured all the pain and worry and physical challenges it takes to bring a person to earth.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Motherfuckers who joined as creators in this most powerful human act--the act of sex and propagation, the powerful joyful amazing fearful union of desire, love, lust, and creativity, bringing into the world new life. Hold your heads up high, men, without you motherfuckers there would be no mothers!
Happy Mother's Day to all the lesbians, infertile straights, adopters, and test-tubers who found a way despite the odds, the risks, the challenges, and the condemners to become mothers by working with or working around or adapting nature--or by stepping in to take over from the biological mothers. OK, you can do it without the motherfuckers--all power to ya.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who gave up their babies, who were paid babymakers for others, who gave up their creations to adoption because of poverty or circumstances, and who chose abortion.
Happy Mother's Day to all those aborted fetuses and to all those children who did make it through the maze of physical challenges, those spirits who found a way despite violence and drugs, who got themselves born somehow anyway, or who took a detour from one womb and found another, or who died before they had the chance to fully express themselves as humans.
Happy Mother's Day to all the teenagers and undeveloped adults who think sex is a child's game or a crap shoot or a power struggle or that pregnancy is a way to gain acceptance or approval or to get and win a partner. Next time learn about safe sex, practice safe sex, understand that sex is a two-way option: You can do it for fun, all out, creatively, but with protection -- or you can do it as mutual, awake, fully engaged co-creators. And that even with the safest sex there may be a risk. You may create something surprising--even if not a baby, maybe a little bit of sudden love. Sex is playful and powerful and potent and ridiculous. Don't try to cheat the magic.
