I get a kick out of sg's who scold you if you playfully semi-proposition them -- tut-tutting as if they were members of Bush's Christian Coalition.
First there was a certain sg superstar who, after I emailed an admittedly outrageous remark, told me "my husband is very amused by this"--as if she were an everyday housewife scandalized at a dirty note passed to her by a neighbor.

Then there is this recent exchange with a newbie:

After I made a cryptic flirtatious comment by email and mentioned how appreciative I am of teasing (which is true, and my usual refrain, and fairly harmless, I think):
She:
um, forgive me, but i completely don't understand what you're getting at here. are you asking for sexual favors or something? if so, i'd like to remind you that sg's are simply pinup models, not whores.

Me:
....no offense intended. Most of the comments you see on sg journals are of a flirtatious nature. If you're uncomfortable with that, maybe you better reconsider what messages you are sending with your photoplay.
She:
... yes, people on sg are flirty. it's good business. but for the most part, we take offense to, or at the very least, reject sexual propositions from strangers.

So Sg's are simply "pinup models" who flirt because "it's good for business." Sort of like the women who drape themselves over new model cars at auto shows? This is all about a product, apparently--a commercial enterprise?

Now, just to be clear, I didn't make an overt "sexual proposition"--though I implied open-ended interest in whatever suits mutual fancy, as almost everyone here is constantly doing. It's what the game is all about here--teasing and taunting and sharing and sometimes getting to know, on many levels, all of them safe and (at least in my conduct) grounded in respect.
I have nothing but admiration for sg models. They brighten the world with their daring and beauty!
But I did point out that showing your tits and pussy to the world and getting paid for it might be considered at least a distant relative to prostitution--it's "sex work," as it's called these days.
That certainly doesn't mean--and I would never imply--that sg's are giving strangers the permission to do whatever they want to them.
As if that were even possible online.

Am I missing something here? Or has the divorce between erotic display and real sexuality grown so huge that modeling on this and other sites is considered the same thing as being a waitress at Hooters and being nice to customers because it's "good for business"? Is it truly the case that a woman can show her privates for anyone in the world to see and then maintain that she has done nothing provocative?

These are isolated incidents but I have noticed an amazing degree of conservative attitudes on this site, sometimes wrapped in libertine packaging.

Thoughts?

I think the reasons for doing SG and the expectations of what one will get fromit vary greatly from person to person and that anything else would be dull. We are not clones and we all have our opinions. That said, I do not flirt with anyone any more than I would as a member. (I was a member for some time before becoming an SG.) It is a business and I wouldn't do anything BAD for business, however I sell photos (and to a degree my "image," if you will), but not my company. I talk with people because I enjoy it. If I no longer enjoy talking with someone, I allow my social graces and not my business instinct to handle it. In general, I do not imply sexual activity between myself and members, and I appreciate reciprocation on that front. However, when it does happen I usually just ignore it and/or the person.

On a side note, saying that a woman should expect certain behaviours based on what she is/ isn't wearing sounds remarkably similar to some "she deserved it" attitudes I've heard. Yes, I know it is not the same, but there is a whiff of it present. Even if a woman is doing SG specifically for sexual attention, it is not necessarily for sexual attention from you specifically. Tricky? Yes. True? Yes. You have to read people in your interactions and see how they feel about things before jumping into some kind of implication game if you don't want to offend anyone. That's just life. surreal
