Halloween is my favorite holiday because people get out of their constricted selves, including their constrained physical boxes, and become fantastic shapes, dreams, and nightmares. It's also the only time left in this culture when strangers can come to your door and be welcomed.

Efforts to sanitize this holiday have partially succeeded. Now children say "Happy Halloween!" instead of "Trick or Treat!" and go to police stations to have their treat bags scanned or, worse yet, go to "safe" "community-sponsored" indoor parties. Let the kids out so they can roam in the dark! Let the kids inside all of us out, so we can scream, laugh, and celebrate our dark, comic, and rebellious sides!
