To 3D or not to 3D

My Bloody Valentine in 3D starts off with a bang with some pretty gruesome, 3D-ey (there's got to be a better way to write that) killings at a highschool party which takes place in a mine. Yes, a coal mine. This is just set up because the story jumps 10 years and the killings start all over again. I'm not going to give anything away but it's your typical slasher film. Maybe better than average but if you like the genre, you'll like it, if you don't why are you going to see it?

Good question! I HATE the slasher genre but this was in 3D and the whole film was shot for 3D. While I had seen Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, that was upconverted and didn't have things flying at you. I missed Journey to the Center of the Earth (and Hananah Montana) and the dvd only has red and green (blue?) lenses.

Technology-wise the 3d works pretty well. I am currently in the trend of sitting way back in theaters - technically you get a better perspective - but for 3D you should sit as close as possible. I'd recommend 1st row stadium or even in the pit portion of statium. You want the screen to fill as much of your vision as you can. The glasses are not the red and green lens glasses. They were community glasses and it appeared they were washed before I used them. If you watch the without glasses there is a portion of the film which is not blurry. This is middle ground. Things in the background shift and you have a double image. The further back the wider the gap between the double images. Same for the front but the shift is the other way. The shifted image often shook like it was vibrating if you viewed it without glasses but not so much in darker scenes. If you watch with your glasses upside down it gets freaky because the background wil sorta be in front and the foreground will drop in back.

We are Legion.
The Legion of Super-Heroes episode of Smallville aired this week and I love the Legion. "Garth, stop acting like a sub," was the nerd moment for me. I also picked up the LSH trade of the majority of Steve Lightle's run. He was only briefly an LSH artist but captured them perfectly and is fondly remembered for that.

In other TV 30 Rock was great: Dr. Spaceman telling Liz "I'll give you the shot but you have to dance for it," and then Liz dancing was both surreal and disturbingly sexy. The whole episode was one of the more surreal ones. Donaghy and Elisa taking Elisa's patient with them on their date and then the patient's recounting of it had me in tears.

Have a sorta work party to go to but I'm tired. I had to work downtown just off of Michigan and Van Buren yesterday and no matter what I wore, and it was lots, it was COLD and I think I'm a little sick.

If you haven't seen it, I have the Spike Milligan "Pakistani Daleks" sketch on my myspace page. Or if you know my you tube account it's one of my 2 favorited videos. That and the variant naked Britney "Toxic" video.
