Maybe His Name is a Killing Word...

As of last Sunday the Venture Bros. is back and more Monarch-centric and nerdy than ever. For the premier, they even redid the title sequence to feature The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend! Go Team Venture!

Even hella bigger nerd news: D&D 4th edition is out. Yes, Dungeons & Dragons. I played so much D&D in my youth that I feel lucky to have even kissed a girl, much less other things. Now while I played 1st and 2nd editions until everything fell apart, I've only played 3rd and 3.5 once, maybe twice, each. So why shell out $100 for books that I will probably never use? No idea, but I'm looking at them now and as happy as can be.

So this is called burying the lead.
Met with Kerry yesterday. Took her out to dinner at Duck Inn and went bar hopping in downtown Janesville. I wanna say Willy's, Karma's and Legends but I'm not sure apart from Karma's. They were all close to each other. It was fun, neither of us are big go-out drinkers and it was a welcome change of pace. Kerry is getting a divorce from her husband who cheated on her so we did a lot of talking, which you'd think would be a total disaster for me but it turned out fine.

I find a surprising amount of parallels in my parents' divorce and Kerry's. Outgoing men looking for a level of dependence from competent, independant, non-confrontational wives that probably was never and will never be there and then deciding to find it in someone else. I'd guess, as unrealistic a point of view it is in modern society, there's a feeling of importance and confidence that comes from being needed, from being a provider which is ingrained in the male psyche. I have it though I think I express it more as being a loner or at least having that mentality -- I may not provide for others but I don't let anyone provide for me. (Ask me how that works in relationships.) I see it in Dr. Popp who refuses compensation for anything he does. There're others. You can probably see it in most guys if you look.

Enough serious talk.

Seeing Kerry on Friday was the end of a two-day work thing in Milwaukee. Driving up Thursday, I was in some severe thunderstorms. Around Gurnee, the skies just turned black and the water came down in torrents. There was a section of construction where there was a single express lane and 2 local lanes bounded by concrete barriers. I was in the express which had occasional flooded portions but trucks in the locals were so close to the barriers that any water that had pooled by the barriers was forced over by the trucks in big waves. It was actually really beautiful except when you were in the sweet spot where all that water hit you. Total blindness.

I just finished playing a brilliant game for the DS: Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It's a programmed mystery (you can't help but solve it) but you get from stage to stage by solving little brain teasers. It's one of the few things that just grabbed me and I made time for until I finished it. Next up: Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance 2: a turn-based, strategy RPG out at the end of the month. The last one for the GBA I put 60 hours into completing everything. No idea if I can affort that amount of time.

I kicked some ass in poker two fridays back. (Read: I won one of two tournaments) Actually I played conservatively except for a few hands which I was lucky to win, including one where I bluffed everyone with a nothing hand and rubbed it in their faces. I am not a good poker player but I'm semi-competent and deliberately erratic enough to confuse good players.

I discovered I can post blog entries to my website via Facebook. But I only get the one try and can't edit or approve comments. Someday I'll fix it or just reinstall the thing but since it sorta works...
