To Scalp or Not to Scalp...

... or Grown Men Shouldn't Play With Dolls.

The Dresden Dolls played Saturday Night at the Vic. No new album but they hadn't been here in a year so it sounded like fun. Pat invited me but didn't buy tickets. We figured at worst we'd scalp a few.

Ah, the best laid plans.

The show was at 7:00 and as we approached the Vic, we saw Balutan, who I hadn't seen in at least a year. He was going to show and we said we'd meet inside. We did get one ticket but after a lengthy delay, we decided to scalp that and head off to get some eats (shawarma?) and drinks. We ended up going to Lago.

We stayed at Lago till close (around midnight.) Now Pat's quite the regular there and good friends with all the staff, even the cooks. They even know what he'll order as far as drinks and food. Pat of course had his regular drink while I drank whiskey all evening. Started with Makers on the rocks and ended with Beam and Cokes.

Pat's not going to Japan which throws a slight wrench in plans but we should be able to work around it.

Went to see Golden Compass on Friday. For past week I've had the Willy Wonka song "I've got a Golden Ticket!" except with Golden Compass running around in my head. I'm a big fan of the book though I felt each successive novel dropped drastically in quality. The movie does it's best to adapt the book which is very dense with new concepts but it just comes across as rushed. Half the people in the theater were not expecting the movie to end on a "to be continued..." note.

Other things I've seen recently - On Xmas eve I went to see Juno, then snuck into Sweeny Todd, and then snuck into Atonement. Except Atonement was hella full and people were still coming in, so I left. I was already in the front row and figured people who paid should have the option of seeing the movie. If I had stayed through Atonement, Enchanted or I am Legend awaited but it was not to happen. Juno was excellent, easily one of the most fun things I've seen in a while and a well thought out comedy. Sweeney Todd was very bloody and not very funny, which is what you'd expect from Burton, unless you were a Sweeney Todd the play fan, at which point you'd expect dark AND funny.

I was able drop off my camera to have it fixed and it should be ready in a week!
