They don't drink you like I drink you!

- sung to Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Wait! They don't drink you like I drink you.
Wait! They don't drink you like I drink you.
Pa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-bst!
Wait! They don't drink you like I drink you!

This is your new years on Rock Star.

We gathered at Radiation Kevin's for the New Year festivities. (My other options were to go to Navy Pier or see if Brower was up to having another join him at Lago.) In addition to our hosts, we had all three Healy Bros. with Den's girlfriend, Matt, Dr. Popp, Chris and Sarah, and Larry and his girlfriend. Our evening was pool until pizza arrived and then trying to set up Rock Star on Kevin's system until Dr. Popp arrived. Then Rock Star until 2:30 AM.

Resolutions? Read more, try and eat/live healthier, and not spend as much. I was doing pretty well on the last one until the ulcer.

Didn't read any more books. 4 for last year.

Today I went to Mitsuwa to watch them make mochi as part of their new year festivities. Mochi is a sticky rice paste. It's pretty bland and was served with sweet red beans (I'm not a fan of sweet red beans though) and dusted in a fine peanuty powder. I missed the beginning but the way they finish Mochi is by pounding the gooey rice mixture which is in a large bucket with a big wooden mallet while another stirs with his hands in between pounds. I was reminded of a scene from the Young Ones episode Oil where Neil and Vivian are, appropriately enough, digging for oil. Neil by using a pick axe and Vivian by head-butting the ground. They alternated but of course Vivian ended up with a pick axe through his head. "Don't worry Neil," he said, "it was bound to happen sooner or later." No such accident occurred during my viewing.
