Hot Fuzz

"It's Miss Marple with a lot more things blowing up."

And it was.

I had passes to see a preview screening of Hot Fuzz. What is Hot Fuzz? Hot Fuzz is the soon to be released film from Edgar Wright (dir.), Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. They did Shaun of the Dead as well as the British TV series Spaced. Oh yeah, they were there too.

I was there with Kevin Healy and Chris Weithers. They got their passes by going to the Brew and View to watch "To Live and Die in LA", "Infernal Affairs", and "Piont Break". At least one of those was significant to the story of Hot Fuzz. It was a promotion from AICN and as they tell it the screenings didn't go all that smoothly but you'll have to ask them or check the site to see if someone wrote about it. I wasn't there because I got my tickets via Pat Brower and the Graham Cracker's Chicago group which consisted of lots of Graham's employees and friends _ about 15 people.

I got there close to 5 about an half hour after Kevin and Chris arrived. The movie didn't start til 7:30 and it was hot yesterday and even hotter in the theater lobby. Cramming 300 or so people in close quarters for about 2 hours on a warm day is not a good idea. But it was cool just hanging out and talking which I don't get to do very often. They let us in just after 7:00. The stars came, gave a brief and unorthodox introduction, then it was off to the pub (PJ Clarke's) for them and movie preview for us.

Again. Miss Marple with lots of stuff blowing up. And a very British twist. Not sure if it's an Avengers (Steed and Mrs. Peel Avengers) thing or just a British thing. Anyway, it was lots of fun. The short blurb is: An exceptional police officer from London in making the rest of the force look bad so he's transferred to Sanford where nothing bad happens. There he tries to adjust to small town living but he still sees crime everywhere and tries to link several accidents together as foul play.

They Q&Aed afterwards. We learned mimsy was Brit slang for vagina so The Last Mimsy was a very unfortunate title. There was a girl who was a zombie in Shaun who wanted money for her work and got a pound from Simon Pegg and she gave him a hug and a kiss. I'm thinking they both felt they came out on top. Other questions were "What is your next project?" It's being planned but they aren't talking about it yet. "Will Spaced come out on DVD in the US?" Probably, there're licensing problems with the music. And things like "What was your favorite gun to fire?", "Do you have a thing against the elderly?" and "There's a lot of homo-erotocism in your movies is there a lot in their creation?"
