This is my mix from the 18th (55 MB mp3). I should have another one ready for you all in the next day or two.

The local paper has an article about the Quantrill raid; the low-point of the Kansas vs. Missouri fighting that went on in the run-up to the Civil War.

For those of you overseas, or those who skipped history class to smoke weed out behind the school with your degenerate friends, prior to the Civil War, Kansas was a Free State-- that is, Kansas opposed slavery. Missouri was a slave state-- a state filled with faux-southerners who for the most part were a people without a purpose-- you see, the mullet would not be invented for another hundred years. With no haircut to exemplify them, what could these sad wretches do, other than repress humanity and dream of the day they might take their mulletless misery out on that despised bastion of liberty, emancipation and stylish hair to the West; Lawrence, Kansas.

One hundred and forty two years ago today, they got their chance. A fellow by the name of William C. Quantrill led a band of 400-or-so drunken bandits into Lawrence, Kansas and murdered literally every man they could find.

In the article linked above, they mention a Jayhawker* named Lane, who "escaped Quantrills early morning wrath by hiding in a cornfield that covered what are now the 700 and 800 blocks of Illinois and Alabama streets."

^ That's where I live! He was probably hiding right where I'm sitting, while 400 raiders burned his town and killed 85 men.

When you think about news reports you hear from Iraq; how a firefight results in 12 deaths, you realize killing 85 men with pre-civil war technology must have been ugly. The raid more or less went on all day-- the raiders rode in to town, shot every man they could find and drank every drop of liquor they could get. One of the historians quoted in this article points out that most of the raiders were teenagers. Drunk, disorderly and armed.

-----

* Jayhawkers were the raiders who used to go into Missouri and burn things to the ground. None of the Jayhawker raids could match Quantrill's raid for pure savagery and murderous intent, but Jayhawkers did burn the fuck out of several Missouri slave-holding towns.

Fuck that. Time is your pony, and he had it coming - what with the hundreds of years of musical and temporal fascism.
Clearly he had it coming. As such, I've been banned from carnivals and most childrens' parties. I contend that it was in the name of a greater good.
I wholeheartedly agree with your +1 friend. Put the music anywhere you can. As Lemmy hiimself said in The Decline Of Western Civilization:The Metal Years, 'Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it.'
Is there anything he doesn't know - aside from celibacy, sobriety and moderation in any form?
Speaking of equines, I've got a video...... nevermind.
