Helene is my goddaughter; she turned 4 years old yesterday. It was a fine day. In her words, she had a "pahdy at schuow." This Saturday she is having a dress-up party for her cadre of lackeys . . . oops, I mean 'friends.'
Helene is quite the little gal; I honestly have never met a more stubborn or hard-headed bossy-ass little kid. I know kids get irrational, have meltdowns, etc., but this child is different.
Better.
Of course, I'm one of those people who thinks that knowing what you want and being fiercely determined to get it against all odds and obstacles it is a good thing. In Helene, I see raw greatness. It remains to be seen what direction her inclinations will lie-- right now, she likes things that are pink and she likes princesses. Fortunately for my sanity, she also likes to play with toy swords, read books and wrestle. She likes ice cream, especially if its pink, she likes other little girls, and she likes fucking with her parents and driving them 100% apeshit.
She usually waits until they are having some other crisis before really laying into them. She knows how to strike when the opportunity presents itself.
She also likes banging around-- she's really physical. My ex used to be her nanny, and I first realized I wanted a piece of my ex when I watched her box.
(I used to train kickboxers, back in the bad ol' days.) They used to rough-house and fool around; Helene picked up on my ex's physicality and ran with it-- one of 'El's favorite games is to run at the couch as fast as she can and launch herself headfirst into it. She gets horizontal.
One time, she missed the cushions, and went head-first into the hard wooden back of the couch. She started to cry, but honestly y'all, I was laughing my ass off. After a minute, she decided it was pretty funny too, and we had a laugh together.
In a few years, we'll see if we can get her out of her frilly pink princess dresses long enough to start some karate. I promised her mom no combatives until she is at least 13.
For her birthday, I got her this suuuper cute Triple 5 Soul pink jumpsuit. It's off the chain. Happy B-Day 'Ellie-bean. You are loved beyond your reckoning.
